Bible Schools – local, regional and national level
Bible Schools continue to provide trained leaders for the 460+ CBC churches in Papua New Guinea. Located in several provinces, they provide not only systematic Bible teaching and training for various church ministries and leadership but also life skills and training in community development.
Most Bible Schools, though started with missionary assistance, now struggle to maintain continuity and quality, after missionaries left. Funding is one issue. Students grow their own food and pay fees to cover costs but these are insufficient to adequately support teaching staff who serve at considerable sacrifice and often have to rely on relatives to cover school fees for their children. Some experienced teachers leave for these reasons.
Another critical area is quality in-service training. Apart from personal spiritual refreshment, staff need to become familiar with better teaching methods, and effective management and book-keeping. Providing such in-service courses in central locations costs money the schools themselves cannot afford. In some cases, old equipment has broken down and needs replacement or up-grading.
You may effectively partner this ministry in several ways:
· Enter partnership with a particular Bible School, pray and support it.
· Staff salaries. NZ$3600 pa (3 Team Support units of NZ$100 a month) would support a fulltime Bible Teacher at an adequate rural rate.
· Costs of in-service courses vary with location but may cost NZ$3000 per week-long course.
· Donations earmarked for Bible School expenses will be allocated by the CBC National Office. |
