In Papua New Guinea there are still many remote and isolated communities, hidden behind high mountain ranges or located in lowland malarial swamps with difficult access to the outside world.
Many Christian Brethren Churches are located in such areas where they seek to meet the health, education and other social needs of their communities. Their isolation and poor communication makes it difficult to get teachers and health workers to volunteer to serve in such locations.
Missionaries used radio transceivers to communicate and support one another, and to advise Mission Aviation Fellowship bases of airstrip conditions, weather and medical emergencies. Christian Radio Missionary Fellowship (CRMF) was set up to provide for this service and still exists to serve the growing churches and their holistic ministry of literacy, education, health and community development.
Some CBC centres do not have transceivers and people suffer deprivation and sometimes death as a result. On other centers, their radios are too old to repair when they break down. CRMF reconditioned radios cost about $3000, if available (new about $9000). Essential add-ons such as solar panel, battery, antenna and regulator cost a further NZD $3000.
You could contribute towards the purchase of radio transceivers in PNG. It is a small amount to save a life, ensure education for bright, intelligent children and to provide health supplies and service for a community. |
